OpenAI and ServiceNow broaden AI workflow partnership

OpenAI and ServiceNow broaden AI workflow partnership

OpenAI and ServiceNow have expanded their partnership to bring OpenAI models and agents into ServiceNow products and connect ServiceNow workflows with ChatGPT and Codex. The companies say the work will span application development, security and voice-based interactions, while ServiceNow plans to provide ChatGPT Work and Codex to all of its employees.

The ServiceNow MCP plugin is available in the OpenAI marketplace today. OpenAI said enhanced capabilities are expected by the end of 2026, while other elements of the collaboration are scheduled for 2027.

ServiceNow actions inside ChatGPT

A new ServiceNow integration is intended to place business context and workflow actions directly in ChatGPT. An IT team member could find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change and update a ServiceNow record without leaving the conversation.

Customers will connect ChatGPT to their own ServiceNow instance and select the capabilities they make available. ServiceNow’s Action Fabric applies existing business rules and permissions, meaning available actions reflect an organisation’s configuration and access controls.

ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences in ChatGPT. In the example described by the companies, an on-call engineer can review linked monitoring alerts, recent changes and affected services, then assign the appropriate team and work towards a fix within ChatGPT.

Development, security and voice plans

The roadmap includes a planned Codex integration in ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory. OpenAI models are also intended to power ServiceNow’s Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer for application development and modernisation. The broader context includes OpenAI DevDay 2026 ChatGPT and Codex announcements, which outlined more than 20 DevDay 2026 announcements for ChatGPT and Codex.

For cybersecurity, the companies plan a joint solution combining OpenAI’s cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow asset, identity and business context. It is designed to help teams investigate vulnerabilities, prioritise risks and coordinate remediation.

An OpenAI-powered experience in ServiceNow’s Super Intelligence Control Tower is also planned for voice use cases. People will be able to describe an AI use case aloud, with the system intended to populate assessment fields and ask follow-up questions for missing information.

Availability and internal adoption

Voice capabilities in the Super Intelligence Control Tower are expected in the first quarter of 2027. OpenAI-powered security capabilities are expected to enter early access in January 2027, with general availability planned for the second quarter. Codex in AI Workflow Factory is expected in 2027.

ServiceNow says engineers will use Codex to explore codebases, make changes and run tests, while other teams will use ChatGPT Work in day-to-day work. For businesses, the practical implication is to define access, workflow rules and ownership before connecting conversational AI to systems that can act on operational records.
