Otter.ai obtains $320 million for enterprise meeting AI growth

Otter.ai has raised $320 million from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund (CVF) to support enterprise growth, go-to-market strategy, international expansion and product innovation for its meeting note-taking platform. The company said 40 million users have used Otter.ai to date, compared with 25 million last year.

The transaction differs from a conventional equity round. General Catalyst’s CVF provides capital without diluting a startup’s equity and earns returns from the results of marketing spending. Otter.ai has been operating for nearly a decade and had raised $50 million in total funding, with its last round completed in 2021, PitchBook data shows.

Growth capital for a crowded meeting AI market

Otter.ai crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue last year and said it is approaching further milestones, without releasing an updated ARR figure. It also did not provide monthly active-user or churn data, two measures that would help assess how consistently customers remain with the service.

Meeting transcription and note-taking have become a competitive enterprise software category. Fireflies.ai, Granola and Read AI are among the well-funded providers, while Calendly, Wispr and Superhuman have entered the market; Superhuman acquired Fathom. Circleback, Talat and Quill are also competing for users.

Many providers aim to connect captured meeting data to enterprise systems and automate workflows from the resulting information. Otter.ai is pursuing a similar direction through a meeting assistant, search across applications and integrations with other AI tools.

From transcripts to meeting context

General Catalyst partner and CVF co-founder Pranav Singhvi said voice remains an underused opportunity in enterprise AI. He said Otter can capture critical voice data and convert it into actionable business insights, helping teams move faster and make sharper decisions.

Alex Gay, Otter.ai’s newly appointed chief marketing officer, said the company is addressing the burden on people whose work involves consecutive customer, sales or strategy conversations. In such roles, participants can spend substantial time recapping prior discussions before moving a meeting forward.

Otter.ai is experimenting with insights before, after and during meetings. Its tests include a pre-brief containing details and background context from previous conversations across surfaces. The company is also trying a Live Assist feature that enables users to ask the AI assistant questions during a meeting and retrieve knowledge.

Practical implication for enterprise buyers

For businesses evaluating meeting AI, the useful test is not transcription alone but whether pre-meeting context, in-meeting answers and post-meeting outputs fit existing systems and reduce repetitive recap work. Otter.ai’s new capital gives it resources to pursue that enterprise proposition, while its undisclosed retention metrics remain an important consideration for buyers.
