Zenzap Secures $44M for AI-Enabled Workplace Messaging

Zenzap raises capital for workplace messaging

Zenzap has raised $44 million to develop its AI-enabled chat application for workplace communication. The startup is positioning the product as an alternative for businesses whose employees use consumer messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or iMessage to coordinate work and exchange documents or data.

The round includes Bessemer, Lightspeed and The Garage, alongside individual investors Nir Zohar, president of Wix, and Yoram Tietz, a former general manager at EY. It is founder Guy Weiss’s first external fundraise. Weiss previously bootstrapped e-commerce marketing platform StuccoMedia, which Market Group acquired in 2015, and founded Zenzap in 2022 with Noam Neumann and Jonatan Bien.

A mobile-first alternative for operational teams

Weiss said the company is targeting a broad group of organizations, including businesses in hospitality, construction, healthcare and fast food. His premise is that consumer chat tools cannot simply have an AI agent added for workplace use because they do not meet IT requirements, while Slack and Microsoft Teams were not designed around day-to-day, mobile-first use by non-specialist workers.

Zenzap’s free tier includes group chats, direct messages, task management, calendar integration, schedule management, AI-powered voice chat and search. Organizations can subscribe from $51 per month for up to 20 users. That tier adds voice and video calls, smart task sorting, task templates, increased file-storage limits, workspace-wide AI search and the ability to turn messages into tasks.

The company also sells AI agents for workflow automation and provides AI-assisted transcriptions for voice notes and calls through a credit-based pricing system. These features place messaging, operational tasks and access to organizational information in the same application rather than separating communication from routine workflow tools.

Customers and expansion plans

Zenzap lists FedEx, Dollar General, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Casey’s and Regal among its customers. Weiss said branches of chains including IHOP and McDonald’s use the platform to coordinate shifts and discuss supplies. He said each vertical can create its own workflows with AI while sharing a need for a workplace communication layer.

The startup has 50 employees across the United States, Tel Aviv and Europe, and plans to recruit in product and research and development. Bessemer partner Adam Fisher said the investment firm itself uses the messenger within its investment team to discuss and manage deal flow, describing Zenzap’s potential audience as workers beyond the developer communities where Slack has strong allegiance.

What businesses should assess

For employers considering AI in frontline communications, the practical issue is whether a messaging platform can keep work conversations separate from personal accounts while connecting approved information, task workflows and AI capabilities. Zenzap’s funding gives it resources to scale that approach, but organizations should assess their own IT requirements, user needs and controls before consolidating operational communication in a single tool.
